چکیده

PURPOSE To assess the accuracy of three-dimensional CT angiography (CTA) in the detection and characterization of intracranial aneurysms and to help determine its role as a screening test for aneurysms in the asymptomatic population and as an adjunct to angiography in subarachnoid hemorrhages and in the follow-up of untreated aneurysms. METHODS In a blinded, prospective study, the 3-D CTA studies in 80 patients with symptomatic aneurysms were analyzed for the presence and morphology of aneurysms. Angiography or surgery acted as the control. RESULTS Ninety-four aneurysms were found in 63 patients. Negative findings at angiography were noted in 17. Sensitivity and specificity of 3-D CTA for all aneurysms, all patients, and aneurysms 5 mm or smaller were 90.4% and 50%, 98.4% and 82.4%, and 78.8% and 51.9%, respectively. CONCLUSION Three-dimensional CTA may have a role in noninvasive screening for asymptomatic aneurysms in the general population, but caution is advocated when data obtained from symptomatic patients are extrapolated to the asymptomatic population who harbor smaller aneurysms. Also, 3-D CTA may be useful as an adjunct to angiography in the characterization of berry aneurysms and in the follow-up of untreated aneurysms.

Subtraction CT angiography with controlled-orbit helical scanning for detection of intracranial aneurysms.

PURPOSE Our goal was to evaluate the utility of subtraction three-dimensional CT angiography for the detection of intracranial aneurysms. METHODS Thirty-six patients with intracranial aneurysms were examined using newly devised controlled-orbit helical scanning and conventional angiography. Three-dimensional CT angiograms and subtraction 3-D CT angiograms were compared with conventional angio...

The Prevalence and Properties of Intracranial Vascular Abnormalities in CT Angiography of Patients with Non-traumatic Intracranial Hemorrhage

Introduction:Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is divided into two traumatic and non-traumatic categories. The present study sought to investigate the anatomical properties of non-traumatic intracranial hemorrhage in Kerman, Iran. Method:A total of 305 non-traumatic ICH cases were chosen in Shafa medical center. Data from patients’ files and CT scan images, including demographic factors and type o...

CT angiography with three-dimensional techniques for the early diagnosis of intracranial aneurysms. Comparison with intra-arterial DSA and the surgical findings.

INTRODUCTION Cerebral CT angiography (CTA) is an established method applied to both the detection and treatment planning of intracranial aneurysms. The aim of our study was to compare CTA and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) findings with the surgical results mainly in patients with acute SAH and to evaluate the clinical usefulness of CTA. MATERIALS AND METHODS During the last 2 years, 8...

Detection and characterization of very small cerebral aneurysms by using 2D and 3D helical CT angiography.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Many cases of subarachnoid hemorrhage are due to rupture of small cerebral aneurysms. Our purpose was to evaluate the usefulness of helical CT angiography (CTA) in the detection and characterization of very small (<5 mm) intracranial aneurysms. METHODS One hundred eighty consecutive patients underwent CTA for suspected intracranial aneurysms. All aneurysms prospectively...
